Rewarding is the work we do here at the Foundation for Shared Impact (FSI), and one reason is that we get to work with purpose-driven youth eager to leverage their skills and expertise to create greater shared impact.

On 17 October, as the secretariat for the HSBC Scholarship Scheme, we gathered with some members of the Hub for the Future (HUB) community, comprising past and current HSBC Scholars, to officially establish the 2025 HUB Leadership Committee, a dynamic group of HSBC Scholars who volunteer to act as ambassadors for the HUB community.
Setting Goals for Positive Social Impact
The committee of diverse backgrounds and skills brings together six returning HUB leaders, who enthusiastically volunteered their support at community events organized by FSI in the past year, and eight newly joined members.
The first meeting served as a launchpad for the committee’s mission. The primary goals were to foster connections between new and old members, who were tasked with clarifying their roles and responsibilities, and most importantly, to start brainstorming impactful events for 2026 to engage the HUB community and transform it into a force for good for Asia.

The session kicked off with networking amongst the participants, followed by each leader sharing the positive change they hope to create in society and the world. The passion in the leaders’ mission statements was truly infectious.
Said Ayeisha Shafana: “What impact do I want to have? I’m an educator, and I really love teaching. Hopefully, in the future, I could help kids or youth cultivate creativity as well as creative thinking when creating social impact.”
“In terms of the impact that I’d want to create in the world, it would probably be to advocate for better relationships between humans and animals,” said Bertina Sum. “There is still a lot of gap between the mainstream education and the veterinary industry’s education, so I would like to promote that a bit more.”
“The person I was five years ago would not be the person you meet right now,” said Daniel Chi Chung Lee. “I would like to be somewhat of a role model for the underprivileged people because I come from quite an underprivileged family, and I want to show them that if you try, you can achieve the things you want to do.”
Also committed to nurturing underprivileged youth is Mudassar Muhammad: “In terms of impact, I want to create and guide more youth in Hong Kong, especially the ethnic minority, to aim for tertiary education rather than giving up on this thought because of the language barriers or other things.”
Said Stephanie Lau Yi Chan: “The impact I want to create in the world is to pursue justice. I joined the HUB Leadership Committee because I love organizing volunteer activities to discuss and collaborate with everyone.”
Defining the Path Forward
Here, our Executive Director, Vivian Seo, shared with the leaders the committee’s key roles and responsibilities. In addition to attending regular meetings and HUB events, the committee members are also entrusted with brainstorming new engagement opportunities and taking proactive leadership roles in promoting and managing programs. We were delighted to see at this first meeting that Ayeisha and Stephanie have volunteered to serve as Secretaries, ensuring smooth communication by managing meeting agendas and action plans.

The room was soon set abuzz with excitement and aspirations as the leaders split into groups to sketch out their ideas for future events, discussing everything from event themes and partners to promotional strategies. As always, the FSI team will act as a support hub, providing resources and budget, so that the committee can focus on transforming ideas into actions.
To channel this momentum into real-life engagements for the HUB, each committee member committed to a clear goal for the next month: to refine one specific, feasible event idea that will attract and mobilize the entire HUB community to do good.

Seeing the strong foundation set by this meeting for the year ahead, we are inspired by the passion and vision of our HUB Leadership Committee members.
